Community-based Victim Services Provided by: Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Society (KSACC)

Offers information and emotional support to survivors/victims of partner assault, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and criminal harassment or stalking, as they navigate the legal and court processes. Provides information on and assistance with reports to RCMP, third party reporting, Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and Victim Impact Statement forms, and court procedures. Also provides court and hospital accompaniment. Wheelchair accessible. Funding provided by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (MPSSG).

KSACC Victim Services

Kamloops RCMP Victim Services Unit:

Provides services such as Emotional support, information on police investigation and court status, community resources and referrals, assisting in completing crime victim assistance forms or making victim impact statements, Trauma care for children, court preparation and accompaniment and more. Can be referred by giving consent to attending police officer or calling the office.

VictimLinkBC is a toll-free, confidential, multilingual service available across B.C. and the Yukon 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It provides information and referral services to all victims of crime and immediate crisis support to victims of family and sexual violence, including victims of human trafficking exploited for labour or sexual services.

PEACE Program

The Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment (PEACE) program for children and youth experiencing violence, (formerly Children Who Witness Abuse) is a free, confidential program across BC for children and youth aged 3 to 18 who have experienced domestic violence.

Based on psycho-educational methods, PEACE programs provide individual and group counselling to help children and youth:

Understand what violence against women is, that they are not alone, and that the violence is not their fault
Identify support networks and develop a safety plan
Identify their feelings and express them in healthy ways
Recognize their strengths and increase their self-confidence
Develop problem solving and coping skills

Y Women’s Emergency Shelter

For a safe refuge, support for women and children, 24/7 phone support, referrals to community resources, and more. Our services are offered free of charge.

What you can expect during the pandemic:

Daily health screenings for staff and residents, Private bedrooms and bathrooms available for women with or without children, rooms have fridges, kettles and toasters as well as coffee, tea and snacks provided for families that want to spend time in their room, Common areas are cleaned and disinfected throughout the day, Meals that are prepared by Shelter staff in a clean and disinfected kitchen. An isolation area is available for any families that need to quarantine. Also outreach services for community based support including referral and accompaniment to medical, legal and other service agencies, information and support to empower women who may prefer to navigate these systems and services on their own, individual as well as group and peer support.

BC Housing Women Fleeing Violence

BC Housing supports more than 100 transition houses and safe homes for women — with or without children — who are at risk of violence, or who have experienced violence.The programs provide women and children with a temporary place to stay, support services, referrals and assistance in planning next steps.
